Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves issued Executive Orders 1463 and 1466, which requires Mississippi citizens to stay home except for when performing essential activities until at least April 20. The Executive Order defined occupations that are exempt from this Order and included all construction activities as “essential businesses or operations”:
“Essential Business or Operation” means:…
Construction and construction related services including building and construction, lumber, building materials and hardware, electricians, plumbers, exterminators, cleaning and janitorial, HVACR and water hearing industry, painting, moving and relocating services, other skilled reads, and other related construction firms and professionals for maintaining essential infrastructure.
Important to note is that while this Order is statewide, it expressly allows local governments to issue further guidelines as long as they do not conflict with the state Order, so check city or county guidelines to see if there are any additional required measures.
County and Local Municipal Authority: Nothing in this Executive Order shall limit or alter the authority of any local or county authority from adopting orders, rules, regulations, resolutions, and actions that are more strict than established herein, provided that they do not impose restrictions that prevent any Essential Business or Operation as identified in Executive Order No. 1463 as Supplemented from operating at such level necessary to provide essential services and functions during this COVID-19 State of Emergency
All companies, including construction companies, are recommended to have office staff work from home where possible, and implement sanitation and distancing practices on job sites where possible.
